The Greg Freegrove Show
I began my journey into radio at the very beginning of Freedom FM in 1995. I always had a huge interest in it so when I got the opportunity to present a show I jumped at the chance. At the beginning I think we were broadcasting to about a half mile radius but no one cared because it was such an exciting hobby to have as a teenager. As time went on and the station grew I was lucky enough to have Simon Davis, Andy Walker and Ralph McGarry allow myself and a group of friends (and fellow presenters) to start what became the “Experience” show. It mostly consisted of small comedy sketches or songs that we would write and record and although it was sometimes juvenile humour we had great craic with it. I also got the chance to host a Chart Request show and opened up the Dance Shows on Friday evenings. Eventually the Experience show gave way to a new format where up and coming bands could send in their demo tapes and we would give them a spin on the air. There was some wonderful talent out there at the time and it was great to give them an opportunity to have their music heard.
It is fantastic to be back on Freedom FM after all this time and to hear so many of the old familiar voices on air. Hopefully the brilliant songs from the nineties and Noughties will mean as much to the listener as they do to us and bring back some great memories for people.
