MEET THE TEAM

Our Presenters

Ralph McGarry

I currently present a pop music programme on Monday between 6pm and 8pm UK/IRL time where I play the best in music from the 90s and noughties and include two features: ‘This week in the 90s and noughties’, revisiting headlines from that period, and ‘Birthday Share’, highlighting which celebrities and famous people you share your birthday with.

Paul Coady

Paul is one of Ireland’s top Trance DJs since the 1990s and is dedicated to the world of Trance music over 3 decades later. A long time ago in the late 1980s, electronic music was discovered by Paul in Dublin and as Ireland was not known for this style of music, he knew it was going to be a difficult road ahead, to promote this music. Then came Acid house music to the UK and the era of Ecstacy was found and the introduction of the rave scene was born in the 1990s. Paul travelled to Cream in Liverpool and The Ministry of Sound in London,  to study the scene. Eventually, the rave scene arrived in Ireland, with the underground clubs popping up all over Dublin,  then the rest of Ireland.

Chris Ryan

“So here I am, back where it all started on radio for me about 23 years ago with the Freedom crew. Things were very different back then. It was around 1998, I was playing in clubs around Dublin at the time but couldn’t pass the opportunity to join Simon and Andy and the rest of the freedom family on this fantastic station. I stayed at Freedom for around 2 years and moved on to Hot Radio and eventually Nova Dance but as time went on and djing became more popular the scene became saturated and I moved away from it. Older (yes) and wiser (no) have I become since then? Move forward almost 20 years and the team is back bigger and better and no cold shed to sit in either 🙂

When I first moved up to Dublin from the country with friends back in 98, we listened to Freedom all the time. We used to phone in our music requests   and the excitement when they were called out. They were good times. I loved the station then and was delighted to hear it was back on air in 2020.
